This flag was made for King Kalakaua on his maiden voyage of the ship "Kaimiloa" and the first ever royal hawaiian navy to help form a confederation of Polynesian states to counteract European imperialism in 1887. Things didn't go as planned as history went and wanted to bring forward this design once again to show the strength of the kingdom of hawaii and what still is it's navy within our kanaka as we sail into the future with reverence for our home and aloha in our hearts.
I felt bringing Louis "Buzzy" Agard (Creator of the original kanaka maoli flag) color flow from his hawaiian sovereignty book HE ALO A HE ALO in which the color red representing Maka'ainana/ black representing Ali'i Nui/ yellow representing Konohiki Chiefs really ties everything together very pono.
